As the Royal Wedding approaches, WinkBall.com - the UK’s no. 1 video website - have been sending out their extensive worldwide network of street video reporters to capture public mood ahead of the event and give the public their chance to offer some sage marital advice for the couple to be. The 3,000-strong responses gave WinkBall a chance to analyse how people differed when talking about relationships, depending on their gender and location – and discovered some surprising results.
Through their unique video coverage, WinkBall.com has conducted a worldwide video survey that will help the newly-wed royals stay together forever. WinkBall have spoken to people in areas ranging from New York, Capetown, London, Birmingham and the Royals’ home city of Windsor. The Royal Wedding promises to be a worldwide event that will be watched by an estimated 2 billion people and through their work, WinkBall has provided an open and exciting platform via the online world for members of the public to speak to the happy couple.
WinkBall have so far collected a variety of opinions from people of all ages and cultures. The advice offered by members of the public has followed a similar trend but has on some occasion presented the royal couple with some colourful guidance. The three key points of advice that the majority of people have offered to the couple have been honesty, trust and tolerance. These three things are considered to be the benchmark for what makes a successful relationship. Other interesting suggestions offered were to: “Listen to the mother-in-law”; “Always say ‘yes dear’”; “Don’t eat a burger when you’ve got steak at home” or, alternatively, “Remain drunk at all times”! All this advice has presented a unique kaleidoscope of public opinion that is delivered through the emotional power of video.
Through their work WinkBall have not only presented William and Kate with a video survival guide to a healthy marriage, but has demonstrated the potential of their reporter network being used as a tool for market research. With over 3,000 people already spoken to, the messages collected have presented a clear and distinct demographic profile of opinion on the Royal Wedding 2011.
This unique survey of opinion demonstrates some very interesting patterns! In London, for example, interviewees held widely contrasting views according to gender: 60% of men said honesty and communication were the vital ingredients of a successful relationship, but only 20% of women agreed.
Fascinatingly, there were similarities between male responses in London, Birmingham, Preston and South Africa. They all scored loyalty and trust as relatively unimportant in a relationship, but placed high regard on honesty and communication. In most locations including New York, women put a high emphasis on tolerance and compromise - except in Birmingham and Newcastle.
